So Medal Of Honor, for all its glory at the time, hasn't aged well. Call Of Duty was made by the original MOH developers following their departure from the EA machine. Console iterations seemingly dumbed-down the content to appeal to their markets, while the less-than-stellar Pacific Assault suffered at the hands of the rival brands of Call Of Duty and Brothers In Arms -both of which titles have seen fit to improve the player's experience rather than, in PA's case, merely re-clothe the same experience as before with more polished graphics. Subsequent titles have sadly weakened the impact though. MOH scored big across the board and paved the way for the franchise it was set to become. This was squads, comradeship, ammo counts, realistic objectives and atmosphere you could cut with a knife. This was interactive war as we'd never seen it before - real, visceral and respectful of the real-life experiences it. The game itself didn't fail to match expectations and gave EA Games its first taste of true Hollywood blockbuster-style hits, propelling the now uber-publisher firmly into the big time. This was to be something special - exciting and profound at the same time. There it was, the opening 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan in completely playable form, unsanitised, unfettered and uncensored. War Is Hellįor most the first indication that something was different was when the Omaha Beach video started circulating around the Net.

It made something of an impact, but it wasn't until the PC release of Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault three years after that, that people suddenly sat up and took notice. One of the saga's strong points and the same happens with Medal of Honor: Airborne, is always its graphics and sound quality, even though nowadays it has been beaten by subsequent installments, the truth is that, when launched, this game set a technical milestone. It took just one year for gaming to catch up, with a much trumpeted PlayStation title claiming to redefine the rules of first-person war gaming. But be careful, we won't be able to carry all of them, so we'll have to choose wisely. To counteract the hordes of Germans that will try to kill us we will have a full arsenal of weapons available, all of them rather real recreations of the original weapons, that we will have to use at our own discretion. This time around, we won't start in a base, the vast majority of the missions will start in the air, something that is a very important disadvantage. Fighting in the allied forces as a member of the US 82nd Airborne Division, the soldier that we play has to manage to complete his mission and stay alive. One of the best things about this saga has always been its settings and the incredible quality and originality of the stories and recreations that can be played, that is why the focus from the point of view of the paratrooper Boyd Travers has had such a success. In Medal of Honor: Airborne we'll fight in Europe once again, but this time we will play the role of paratroopers. First launched in 1999, it set the basis on which many current Second World War games are based, one of the conflicts that have been recreated more times in video games. One of the best sagas that have ever been available for both computers as well as video game consoles is, without any doubt, the one formed by the Medal of Honor games.
